My dad had a rough time during this past page turnaround process, but I got it done finally. I’m really surprised about this page. This is far from my favorite page so far, but I do like it. It took me less than a day to do the background on this. By this time I guess my head had been churning on what Phoenix Hall (the big red building in the background on the 2nd panel) looked like. I whipped it out in no time.
I don’t intend it this way, but for some reason when I do the coloring on the characters I tend to make them look more realistic. My pencils and inks are far from realistic looking. I guess I just subconsciously color the contours of a real face rather than a distorted one like you typically find in manga. There are some manga like what I’ve done, but they mainly achieve it through inking and computerized application of halftones. I like it, but I can’t help but notice it is a departure from what people typically refer to as manga.
Jeff has some stuff he needs to discuss. I don’t know if he’ll make a comment or not, but I’ll ready my Canuck prod (ha ha).
